| Extreme Close Up!! An inchworm; Congaree Ntl. Park |
Cyprus trees’ roots grow knees (anchors into the muck) and “snorkels” (protruding foot-high knobs
above the water-line to help the tree breathe in a watery environment). But, what is this huge trunk-like thing? Perhaps the little
inchworm is trying to tell me something….

Manmade marvel, or an expensive imitation of a natural monolith? Someday,
maybe we won’t need to condition our youth to accept war-machines as tourist sites.
Someday, maybe the awe of nature will replace the glory of battle…

What did the Vanderbilts
and the Sandburgs have in common? Self-reliance and an insatiable
thirst for information. Both estates produced dairy products; Vanderbilts raised
dairy cattle and Lillian Sandburg (Carl’s wife) raised milking goats. Both
homes have several rooms filled with books; Carl Sandburg even had an overflow-library in his garage!
Both places charged me with inspiration. I
know I'm not completely crazy (or alone) in knowing there's more than one answer/opinion, or believing that in a
world filled with mediocrity and complacency, one can still make dreams a reality.

Elvis may have been raised

ARKANSAS
Ouachita Ntl. Forest; Charlton Campground - Apr.'07
The kids loved this campground. There were smooth, paved roads for scootering, and a cool
swimming hole! The clincher, though, was the family across from our site had three children; a boy PK's age,
a girl only one year shy of Natalie's age, and another boy a year younger than Nick. This was the first time EVER there was
a family with a playmate for each Lombardi child.
